Workshop Summary

This seminar is designed for counselors, social workers, case managers, psychologists, mental health/social service professionals, in short, anyone who works with individuals who are filing for or receiving disability benefits from the Social Security Administration. At the conclusion, participants should have a solid understanding about Social Security disability programs and benefits, how to apply, the appeals process, the medical decision process, electronic services at Social Security Online, working while still receiving disability benefits and the important role third parties play in helping clients navigate the Social Security system.

The seminar may be considered as two related events dealing with different aspects of the Social Security and Supplemental Security Income programs. You may, therefore, register for attendance at either or both days.

Day 1

*Overview of Social Security SSI and SSDI programs

*How the medical decision process works

*Role of mental health records in the disability process

*Online disability and appeals applications

*Expediting applications and medical evidence

*Updates on our newest internet resources

*Medicare issues for the disabled beneficiary

Day 2

*Discussion about all of SSA’s "work incentive" provisions

*Information about the "Ticket to Work" program

*Information about the Employment Networks that assist with the

"Ticket"

Knowledgeable speakers from Social Security, the Ohio Bureau of Disability Determination in Columbus, the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program and representatives from both Regional and National Social Security disability programs operations will speak at the seminar and answer your questions.
